Add your calculator to Shopify

Some agencies run their site on Shopify, often because they also sell branded items or paid services there. Shopify's theme editor has a Custom Liquid section that accepts the embed code without touching theme files.

To embed a calculator on Shopify, go to Online Store, then Themes, and click Customize. Open the page template you want, add a Custom Liquid section (or block), paste the code from your account's Embed tab into its Liquid field and save. Then view the live page and submit a test lead.

How it works, step by step

How it works, step by step

  1. Copy the code from your Embed tab

Open the calculator or widget in your account, choose Inline and copy the code.

  2. Open the theme editor

In Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes and click Customize on your live theme.

  3. Choose the right template

Use the page selector at the top to open the page that should hold the calculator — often a custom page template you create for it, so other pages aren't affected.

  4. Add a Custom Liquid section

Click Add section and choose Custom Liquid. Some themes also offer a Custom Liquid block inside existing sections.

  5. Paste the code and save

Paste the embed code into the Liquid field. The code is plain HTML, so Liquid passes it through unchanged. Click Save.

  6. Assign the template if needed

If you made a new page template, open the page under Online Store > Pages and select that template so the calculator appears on it.

  7. Test on the live store

View the page as a visitor, complete the calculator and confirm the lead reaches your contacts and webhook.

Common pitfalls

  • Adding the section to the default page template — every page using it gets the calculator. Create a dedicated template.
  • Older themes without Custom Liquid sections — paste the code into the page's content editor in HTML view, or add a section through the theme code with care.
  • Editing an unpublished theme and testing the live one — make sure you saved changes on the theme visitors see.
  • Pasting into a rich-text block — the code is displayed as text. Use Custom Liquid.
  • A storefront password still on — visitors (and your test) can't reach the page until it's removed.
  • Placing the calculator in a narrow column next to product images — give it a full-width section.

Why use a separate page template for the calculator?

In Shopify's theme editor, sections belong to templates, not individual pages. If you add the calculator to the default page template, every standard page — your About and Contact pages included — shows it. A dedicated template such as 'page.calculator' keeps the calculator on the pages you assign it to.

You can create one template per line, for example one for life and one for retirement income, each holding the matching calculator.

Does a calculator make sense on a Shopify store?

Yes, if your store is also where clients learn about your coverage. The calculator is about the visitor's insurance need, not a product in your cart, so keep it on content pages rather than product pages for physical goods. Make clear that results are estimates and that coverage comes through your licensed producers.

Insurance can't be sold as a cart product in the usual way, and the calculator never quotes or binds anything. Read our compliance notes before linking the two.

How do I show a floating bubble across the store?

Add a Custom Liquid section to a part of the theme that appears on every page, such as the footer group, and paste the bubble code there. Save, then browse a few pages to confirm the launcher appears once on each. If your theme's footer doesn't accept sections, ask your theme developer.

Pair the bubble with a multi-calculator widget so visitors can choose between lines. See multi-calculator widgets.

FAQ

Questions agencies ask

Answers first, details after.

Do I need a Shopify app to embed the calculator?

No. The theme editor's Custom Liquid section accepts the embed code directly. There's nothing to install in your store.

Is it safe to paste HTML into a Custom Liquid section?

Yes. The embed code is plain HTML and a script tag; Liquid outputs it as is. You aren't editing theme files, so removing the section later removes the calculator cleanly.

My theme has no Custom Liquid option. What now?

Older themes may not support sections on every page. You can switch the page's content editor to HTML view and paste the code there, or use the calculator's direct link on a button. For theme-code edits, work on a duplicate theme first.

Will my Shopify theme's styles affect the calculator?

No. The inline embed renders in an isolated container. Style it with the calculator's own theme, palette and fonts so it matches your store.

Can I link to the calculator from my store's navigation?

Yes. Either link to the Shopify page that holds the calculator, or add a menu item pointing to the calculator's direct link if you'd rather it open on its own.

Will leads from Shopify go to HighLevel?

Yes. Leads go wherever your webhook points, regardless of which site the calculator sits on. Each lead also records the Shopify page URL and campaign attribution.

Can I sell insurance through Shopify checkout using the calculator?

No. The calculator produces an estimate of need, not a quote or a policy, and InsuranceQuoteWidget doesn't sell or bind insurance. Use the lead to start a conversation with a licensed producer.
