Help · Squarespace

Add your calculator to Squarespace

Squarespace takes custom HTML through its Code Block. Two things catch agencies out: the plan has to allow JavaScript in Code Blocks, and the editor deliberately doesn't run scripts, so the calculator looks missing until you view the live page.

To embed a calculator on Squarespace, edit the page, add a Code Block where the calculator should go, paste the code from your account's Embed tab, keep the mode set to HTML and save. Then view the live page. Your Squarespace plan must allow JavaScript in Code Blocks; check your plan's features before you start.

How it works, step by step

How it works, step by step

  1. Check your plan allows custom code

Squarespace only runs JavaScript in Code Blocks on plans that include custom code. Check your current plan's feature list before you begin.

  2. Copy the code from your Embed tab

In your account, open the calculator or widget, choose Inline and copy the code.

  3. Add a Code Block

Edit the page, click an insert point (or Add Block) where the calculator belongs and choose Code from the block menu.

  4. Paste and save

Paste the embed code into the block, leave the language set to HTML, and make sure 'Display source' is off. Click outside the block and save the page.

  5. View the live page

Exit the editor and open the page on its public URL in a private window. The calculator loads there even though the editor showed a placeholder.

  6. Test a lead end to end

Submit the calculator's form and confirm the lead reached your contacts list, your email alert and your webhook destination.

Common pitfalls

  • A plan that doesn't permit JavaScript in Code Blocks — the block saves but the script never runs. Check plan features first.
  • Judging by the editor — Squarespace disables scripts while you edit, so the block looks empty or shows a notice. Check the live page.
  • 'Display source' switched on — the code appears as text on the page instead of running.
  • Using a Text or Markdown block — use the Code block.
  • A narrow column in a multi-column section — give the calculator a full-width row so it isn't squeezed on desktop.
  • Password-protected or unpublished pages — test on a page visitors can actually reach.

Why can't I see the calculator while editing?

Squarespace stops custom scripts from running inside the editor so a faulty script can't break the editing screen. The Code Block therefore shows a placeholder or nothing at all. That's expected. Save, leave the editor and load the public page — that is where the calculator renders and where you should test it.

If the public page is also blank, the most likely cause is a plan that doesn't run JavaScript in Code Blocks. A direct link to the calculator works on any plan as a fallback.

Can I open the calculator from a Squarespace button?

Yes. Copy the calculator's direct link from the Embed tab and use it as the destination of a standard Squarespace button or navigation link. This works on every plan because it is just a link, and it is handy in a header, announcement bar or email campaign where a full inline calculator wouldn't fit.

Word the button for what the visitor gets — an estimate of their coverage need — rather than a quote.

Where should the calculator sit on a Squarespace page?

Place it high on the product page for its line, directly after a short introduction to that coverage. Visitors on a life insurance or retirement-income page are already researching, so the calculator should be visible without scrolling past long text. Use a full-width section so the fields and results have room.

A 'Planning tools' page with a multi-calculator widget suits visitors who arrive from your homepage without a line in mind. See multi-calculator widgets.

FAQ

Questions agencies ask

Answers first, details after.

Which Squarespace plan do I need?

One that allows JavaScript in Code Blocks. Squarespace sets these rules per plan and changes them from time to time, so check the feature list for your current plan. If yours doesn't allow it, use the calculator's direct link instead.

The Code Block shows a 'script disabled' style notice. Is something wrong?

No. Squarespace disables scripts while you're in the editor. Save, exit and view the live page. If the calculator doesn't load there either, check your plan's custom-code support.

Can I add the floating bubble to every Squarespace page?

Squarespace offers site-wide code injection on plans that support it, and the bubble code can go there so it loads on every page. Add it in one place only, or visitors may see two launchers.

Will my Squarespace template change the calculator's styling?

No. The inline embed renders in an isolated container, so template styles don't reach it. Match it to your site with the calculator's own theme, palette, fonts and light or dark mode.

Does the calculator work on Squarespace's mobile layout?

Yes, it adapts to the width it's given. Preview the live page on a phone and make sure the section it sits in isn't constrained by columns or padding that leaves it cramped.

Can I track which Squarespace campaign sent a lead?

Yes. Each lead stores the page URL and attribution — UTM tags, Google, Meta and Microsoft click IDs, referrer and first-touch source. Tag the links in your ads and emails and the values arrive in your contacts and webhook payload.
